Friday nights with CEDAR Outreach

Sandi has been a Peer Worker with CEDAR Outreach since its inception. Please keep reading to see what the first few hours of a typical Friday night shift looks like for her.

Sandi starts by gathering the correct paperwork for a meeting with a client and filling the van with donated sandwiches and baked goods, prepared by Louise Burns. Learn more about Louise’s work in a previous blog post featuring CEDAR Outreach Worker Morgan.

First, Sandi meets with a client to help him fill out the government paperwork he requested. CEDAR’s work aims to bridge gaps between our clients and the services that will help them achieve their goals. In many cases, all that’s missing is a few signatures on the correct documents. CEDAR staff makes this as easy as possible by bringing documents directly to our clients, helping them fill in the blanks, and mailing them on their behalf. A simple service that makes a world of difference.

Sandi’s shift often includes visiting different encampments around Abbotsford to check-in on people’s wellbeing and service needs, as well as provide essential supplies like food and clothing. Sandi is well known among these camps, as she often stays longer to talk to people she meets in order to build relationships and a sense of trust between CEDAR and those wanting to access our services.

After visiting all the usual spots, Sandi returns to the office to prepare for the incoming calls for transportation to those who need to access shelters for the night.
